My Experiences in Murcia and Madrid

I have thoroughly enjoyed my years at various schools in Murcia and Madrid. My first 2 schools in Murcia were primary schools where I taught mostly Science and English to ages 5-12 and a small handful of classes in infantil i.e. children aged 3-5.
After 3 years in the program, it is has been rather obvious that Spanish students know very little about Australian culture and lifestyles. I am also aware that there are very few Australian LA's in the program and being one of the few, it should be my responsibilty to teach Australian culture to Spanish students. I know that many students are reluctant to travel there due to the large distance between Spain and Australia but many students find the culture, environmental features and lifestyle of Australia very interesting and I enjoy teaching it to them. Since many people in Spain (and around the world) know very little about Australia and its culture, I am always willing to provide information and teach people about my country.
I have contributed to the LA program in a number of ways. Being the only Australian LA that has worked in any of my schools has allowed me to inform students and teachers about my culture. I was asked last year to assist the head of the Ministry of Education in the Spanish Embassy in Canberra, Australia: Cristina del Alamo. She asked me to create a informational video to help encourage potential and current applicants to the program and how to get started once you arrive to Spain.
Being an LA has been incredibly enjoyable, educational, and rewarding.
